Serinus canaria

The canary (Serinus canaria) has been bred in captivity for hundreds of years due to its attractive color variations and its pleasing song. The yellow canary is the most popular and was an easy choice for me to build in LEGO.

• A small songbird in the finch family, the domestic canary originates from the Canary Islands off the northwest coast of Africa. The bird is named after the islands.

• They were popular with European royalty and the upper classes in the 17th and 18th centuries and commanded high prices.

• They are favored by bird breeders around the world and there are many color variations.
